Design, engineering and prototyping of a smart ventilation unit that fits seamlessly into UK homes.

AirEx develops retrofittable smart ventilation units that improve domestic energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty.

Poorly insulated homes comprise a staggering 26% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. To help address this problem AirEx replace the underfloor ventilation air bricks present in many pre-1940s UK homes. Smart algorithms enable automatic air flow regulation, balancing thermal efficiency with ventilation based on sensor data.

Our team developed the hardware design and  prototypes for the AirEx smart ventilation control unit, as well as validating early prototype units during the trial stage.

We also created a new website for AirEx, find out more here.

We created and tested hundreds prototypes of the final product, taking it from lab testing to batch production.

The AirEx technology developed has now been Ofgem approved, having successfully completed the UK’s first ever Demonstration Action under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, with 12%-16% heating energy savings independently validated based on a field trial of 115 homes.

“A brand that reflects the dynamic nature of the product.”

In designing the brand identity for AirEx, we wanted to create a sense of lightness balanced with the solidity of a building-based tech product. We chose a bright, high energy colour palette and versatile parallel lines to communicate a sense of air flow.

We deployed the brand assets across a wide range of technical reports, brochures and the website.
